BC’s tree fruit and wine grape industries rely on a strong and resilient workforce. In partnership with KPU’s Institute for Sustainable Food Systems, CCLSP and BC Fruit Works carried out a research project to better understand the realities of domestic agricultural labour in our sector.
Through candid interviews with growers, workers, and other stakeholders, the research team explored the challenges, opportunities, and lived experiences shaping our labour system. Participants spoke openly about issues like housing, wages, training, retention, and recruitment — offering both frustrations and ideas for positive change.
The message was clear: to make progress, we need a collaborative approach between industry, workers, and all levels of government. To support this, recommendations were developed for each stakeholder group.
