SUMMARY:Invasive Insects in BC Orchards & Vineyards (webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Join the Invasive Species Council of BC for an engaging session in our Invasive Species in Agriculture webinar series\, presented in partnership with the Investment Agriculture Foundation. This series highlights the latest research\, field experiences\, and management practices to help producers\, land managers\, and agricultural professionals prevent and manage invasive plants\, insects\, and pathogens affecting BC’s agricultural systems. \nInvasive insects threaten British Columbia’s tree fruit orchards and vineyards. This session highlights key examples like spotted wing drosophila\, apple clearwing moth\, brown marmorated stink bug and Japanese beetle. Participants will learn about their identification\, biology\, prevention\, and management. The session will also cover a few emerging invasive insect pest threats on the horizon. \nSusanna Acheampong is the provincial extension entomologist for the B.C. Interior with the Ministry of Agriculture. She supports insect identification\, monitoring\, pest management\, and grower outreach across the region\, working closely with industry and government partners. Originally from Ghana\, she holds MSc. and Ph.D. degrees in entomology from the University of Alberta and Washington State University. Susanna has also conducted postdoctoral research on aphid biological control in Canada and the United States. \nClick here to register!
