SUMMARY:Cherry Day #2 at SRDC
DESCRIPTION:The commodity day series is a joint AAFC-UBC initiative to address the three major commodities in the Okanagan – cherries\, apples\, and grapes – and give a platform for growers and stakeholders to engage directly with researchers\, have brief updates on what’s currently happening in their research\, and have some interactive session that include meeting the new upcoming cherry and apple cultivars. It will be hosted bi-annually\, with the 2025 cherry and apple days at Summerland Research and Development Centre\, and the 2025 grape day hosted at UBC-Okanagan (more details to come on those). \n  \nWelcome to the Commodity Days: Cherry Day II event! Join us for the second of two cherry days this summer. Doors open at 12\, presentations 1230pm-430pm\, this day will include: \n  \n\nJesse MacDonald: Joint BC Ministry of Agriculture & Food\, industry\, and AAFC protected agriculture and cold hardiness projects\nDr. Letitia Da Ros: Genomic tools for accelerated breeding and pest detection\nDr. Xiaotang Yang: Building cherry shelf-life prediction models\nDr. Kirsten Hannam: A brief presentation on our cold hardiness monitoring work\nShawn Kuchta: A brief demonstration on the use of the cherry cold hardiness model\nDr. Kirsten Hannam & Shawn Kuchta: A demonstration of how cold hardiness data are collected\nDr. Amritpal Singh: Late season new cherries varieties showcase & tasting\n\n  \nLearn about the latest cherry research\, become familiar with some of the new and exciting cherry varieites in the pipeline from the SuRDC breeding program\, and engage directly with the researchers.
