SUMMARY:ReTain Tailgate Meetings
DESCRIPTION:Join the BCFGA for a discussion on ReTain® PGR and how it can help maximize apple quality and harvest efficiency. ReTain works by inhibiting ethylene production\, which results in slower fruit maturation\, reduced fruit drop and improved fruit quality attributes and storage potential. This provides growers with greater flexibility at harvest\, allowing fruits to remain on the tree longer while maintaining quality. Come learn about application timing based on your goals\, best management practices\, and how ReTain can help protect yield and improve fruit quality! \nKey benefits of ReTain on apples include: \n\nReduced pre-harvest fruit drop\nReduce stem bowl splitting (maturity disorder)\nExtended harvest window and improved labor management (up to 7-10 days)\nEnhanced fruit firmness and storage potential\nImproved fruit size and packout opportunities\n\n  \nSouthern Tailgate – July 22nd \n\nWhere: Jaskaran Gill’s orchard\, 2552 highway 3\, Keremeos.\nParking information: Park along the driveway and by the house.\n\n  \nNorthern Tailgate – July 23rd \n\nWhere: Sam Di Maria orchard\, 102 Mail rd\, Kelowna (Glenmore area).\nParking information: Drive through the gate and park anywhere in the area.\n\n  \nHosted in partnership with Nutrien Evergro\, NuFarm\, and Valent Canada.

SUMMARY:Bat Friendly Agriculture Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you see bats around your barns\, buildings\, or homes?  Are you aware of a bat colony on one of your buildings? Do you have a pond\, wetland\, or lakefront\, or creek/river on your property?  Are you on the ALR and see bats flying around in the evening in summer? \nJoin the BC Community Bat Program and Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship Society to learn about bat friendly agriculture.  Bats provide natural and free pest control.  They eat a lot of insects that damage field crops\, orchards\, vineyards\, and harass and sicken livestock.  This natural pest control saves you money.  A single bat can eat its own weight in insects every night. \nA study in the U.S. estimated the value of bats to agriculture is $23 billion/year. Join us to learn about bats\, how to attract them\, how to eliminate hazards for bats\, how to coexist safely around them\, and how to follow Best Management Practices for bats to ensure bat-friendly farms can benefit from the services of bats. \n  \nRegister: Click here! \n  \nOrganized by: Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship Society\, BC Community Bat Program administered by BC Conservation Foundation. \nThank you to our funders for making this workshop free to attend: Sitka Foundation\, Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation\, and South Okanagan Conservation Fund.
