SUMMARY:Cover Cropping for Orchard Soil Health: A Virtual Field Day at Little Dog Farm
DESCRIPTION:How can cover cropping improve soil health\, support nutrient cycling\, and help orchards become more resilient to drought? \nJoin us on Wednesday\, July 29 for a virtual field day filmed at Little Dog Farm in Creston\, BC. Orchard stewards Cathy and Ian Finley will share how they have used diverse cover crop mixes to rebuild soil after decades of depletion\, improve water movement\, increase organic matter\, and support healthier orchard systems. \nYou will also hear from regenerative soil specialist Jo Tobias of RootShoot Soils\, who will discuss the role of soil biology\, compost-based liquid bio-blends\, and practical strategies for improving soil function. The evening includes a pre-recorded farm tour followed by a live Q&A with Ian Finley and Jo Tobias\, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the practices being used at Little Dog Farm. Whether you grow fruit\, manage perennial crops\, or are interested in regenerative agriculture\, we hope you will join us. \n  \nRegister here!

SUMMARY:Cover Crops\, Compost\, and Biodiversity: A CedarCreek Vineyard Field Day
DESCRIPTION:In-depth look at how cover cropping\, biodiversity\, compost\, and soil health are being integrated into vineyard management in the Okanagan. Join FarmFolk CityFolk for a field day for farmers\, growers\, and agricultural professionals exploring regenerative vineyard practices in the Okanagan. \nWe will begin at 9:30 am at CedarCreek Estate Winery before heading together to the farm site for an in-depth look at how cover cropping\, biodiversity\, compost\, and soil health are being integrated into vineyard management. CedarCreek Estate Winery is a certified organic winery in the Okanagan Valley with a growing focus on regenerative viticulture\, biodiversity\, and long-term soil health across its vineyard operations. The field day will be led by Kurt Simcic\, Viticulturist at CedarCreek Estate Winery\, whose work focuses on building vineyard resilience through regenerative and organic practices\, including cover crops\, beneficial habitat\, and integrated biodiversity to support healthy soils and high-quality grapes. Kurt has played a key role in advancing organic viticulture across CedarCreek and other Okanagan vineyards. Joining the discussion will be Alejandra Galvan\, Sustainability Manager at Cedar Creek\, who will share insights into the winery’s broader sustainability approach and how ecological stewardship is being incorporated across operations. \n\n\n\nThrough discussion and time in the field\, participants will gain practical insights into vineyard soil management\, biodiversity strategies\, and farming approaches that support both productivity and environmental health. \nThis is an in-person field day for farmers\, growers\, and agricultural professionals. Space is limited to 25 participants\, and advance registration is required. REGISTER HERE! \n  \nThis event is funded\, in part\, by the Climate Agri-Solutions Fund (CAF). Funding for CAF has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the Agricultural Climate Solutions – On-Farm Climate Action Fund. CAF is delivered by IAF. \nAdditional funding provided through Farmers for Climate Solutions.
